Club News

Dear Club Members,

By the time you receive this letter, my resignation as club president will be official. I would like to explain to you my reasons for taking this course of action, but would first like to take you back to the beginning of the year. After taking on the position in January when no one else would stand up, I soon became aware of some serious issues that needed to be addressed. Membership had taken a sharp decline in recent years, from well over 200 in 2015, to 190 in 2016 and just 130 in 2017. Clearly there were problems and with little money left in the bank, at that time the club could easily have folded. It was to be a challenging road ahead. A leadership team (committee) was put together comprising a group of very good quality people with great skills and ethics. Goals were set for the year ahead which were. 1- Put programs in place to engage members more in club activities and make them feel more welcome. 2 - Create an environment for more family involvement.  3 - Rebuild the membership. 4 - Conduct successful practice and competition events. 5 - Rebuild the fractured relationship with Brisbane Motorcycle Club. 6 - Finish the year with at least $10,000 in the bank without the assistance of any govt grants. It is with great pride that I can inform you that this hard working committee of volunteers achieved every one of these goals. The unfortunate part is we had the rug pulled out from under us after being promised so much by others. As President I had constant dealings with these people, and we went from what appeared early in the year to be a permanent future at Biddaddaba to, unless we get a sympathetic buyer at the upcoming auction, no track. It is so very disappointing what has transpired over the last 6 months or so in relation to the land has been completely outside of the clubs control. The politics involved and the way it was all handled has left me completely drained and bewilded. The enjoyment was disappearing fast. On another side of things, my ongoing search for ways to make dirt bike riding/racing more affordable and fun for the entire family led me to an opportunity that has allowed me to do just that.. However in doing so it appears I may have overstepped the mark with the current motorcycling controlling bodies. This action has left me with no choice but to step down from my position in the club due to it's affiliation with these bodies. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all well for the future and thank all of you who contributed so much to the club this year.

Yours sincerely,

Glen Mason.
